Another 43 people with coronavirus have died in Scotland as the country recorded more than 2000 new cases.
It’s the highest daily rise on record on a day when 19,722 new tests for Covid reported results.
There are 1133 people in hospital confirmed to have the virus – 69 of whom are receiving treatment in intensive care.
The figures, which saw the return of 2045 positive test results, were published by the Scottish Government on Wednesday.
Of the new cases, 618 are in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 295 in Lanarkshire, and 257 in Lothian.
It should be noted that registered offices were closed over the public holidays.
The death toll under the measure of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days now stands at 4510.
Earlier it was confirmed the coronavirus vaccine from Oxford University and AstraZeneca has been approved for use in the UK.
The jab, which has been described as a “game-changer”, was given the green light by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.
