Rishi Sunak faces PMQs as Zelensky visits and NI Protocol ruled lawful

Fresh sanctions on Russian businesses and elites have been announced by UK.

Rishi Sunak is facing MPs at Prime Minister’s Questions as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky makes his first visit to the UK since Russia’s invasion.

Zelensky thanked Britain for its “big support from the first days of full-scale invasion” as he met with the Prime Minister in Downing Street.

Several manufacturers, companies and top figures have been targeted by the UK in the latest round of sanctions to hit Russia since the invasion of Ukraine.

The King will hold an audience with Zelensky on Thursday, Buckingham Palace has said.

It comes as the Supreme Court unanimously dismissed a challenge over the Northern Ireland Protocol post-Brexit trading arrangements.

The legality of the contentious trading arrangements was challenged at the UK’s highest court by a collective of unionists and Brexiteers.

The original appellants, including former first ministers Arlene Foster and the late David Trimble, had argued the arrangements were unlawful.

But the challenge was rejected by a panel of five justices on Wednesday, following a hearing last year.
