STV will show the first televised leaders’ debate of the General Election campaign as Rishi Sunak and Sir Keir Starmer go head-to-head next week.

The hour-long debate, hosted by ITV, will be moderated by Julie Etchingham and will see the Prime Minister and the Labour leader cross-examine each other before taking questions in front of a studio audience.

The debate will be shown on STV and STV Player on Tuesday, June 4 at 9pm.

It comes ahead of the polling day on July 4, the first summer general election since June 2017.

Michael Jermey, ITV’s director of news and current affairs, said: “Millions of viewers value the election debates.

“They provide a chance to see and hear the party leaders set out their pitch to the country, debate directly with each other and take questions from voters.
