The Conservative leadership contest comes to Scotland on Tuesday, but there is much more than just the leadership of a political party at stake – this will decide who will become the next Prime Minister.
That is normally decided at a general election, where we all have the chance to vote and have our say, but this time it will only be members of the Conservative and Unionist Party who will decide.
Across the UK, there are estimated to be around 160,000 Conservative members, around 10,000 of them in Scotland. These figures are guesstimates because the party will not give precise figures. On Tuesday around 1000 party members will attend the Scottish Conservative hustings in Perth. It is only open to members and the media, and only party members will be allowed to ask questions of the two candidates for Prime Minister.
I am chairing the hustings, which means I will get about ten minutes to question them too, so in an attempt to open things up a bit, I want to give you the opportunity to put a question too, whether you are a member of the Conservative Party or not.
You can suggest questions via a direct message or comment on the STV News Facebook page and I will put a couple of them to Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak.
There will also be protesters outside Perth Concert Hall who will get the chance to shout their questions at Conservative members as they go in, but this is probably your best chance to have your question put directly to the next Prime Minister.
I’m not promising and I’m certainly not promising you an answer, but you can watch the hustings live on the STV News website and see for yourself. We’ll also bring you a full report on Wednesday’s STV News at Six.
