The civil servant tasked with leading an inquiry into lockdown-breaking parties held in UK Government buildings has recused himself for the remainder of the process.
Cabinet Secretary Simon Case had been asked by Prime Minister Boris Johnson to investigate reports of parties held last year at Downing Street and at the Department for Education last year in the run-up to Christmas.
However, according to the Guido Fawkes website, two parties were held in the Cabinet Office in December of 2020.
A No 10 spokesperson said: “To ensure the ongoing investigation retains public confidence the Cabinet Secretary has recused himself for the remainder of the process.
“The work will be concluded by Sue Gray, second permanent secretary at the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.
“She will ascertain the facts and present her findings to the Prime Minister.”
