Yousaf to face FMQs at Holyrood after flagship DRS scheme shelved

The First Minister was in the chamber when it was announced the scheme would be delayed again.

Humza Yousaf is likely to come under pressure at First Minister’s Questions after Scotland’s deposit return scheme (DRS) was shelved for another two years.

The FM was in the chamber at Holyrood to hear circular economy minister Lorna Slater announce the flagship recycling programme would be delayed again after the UK Government failed to grant an exemption for glass to be included within the eligible materials.

Wednesday’s statement means the scheme – which had been slated to start in March next year – may now only go ahead when a UK-wide programme comes into force in October 2025.

Yousaf will face questions over the failure to get the scheme off the ground from opponents at Holyrood on Thursday.
