David Cameron will hope to close a deal that will allow Britain to limit the amount of benefits EU migrants can claim as he heads to Brussels to hear new EU proposals on the issue.

The Prime Minister will hold talks with European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker to discuss a proposed "emergency break" which is believed to include plans to allow Britain to withhold in-work benefits for up to four years.

Ahead of Friday's meeting Cameron said the expected offer of an emergency brake mechanism to ease pressure from migrants showed Europe is "taking on board" his concerns

Full details of the proposal have not yet been public and it is not clear whether EU officials would need to give permission for the emergency brake mechanism to be used.
