A teenager has been charged after reports a boy entered a school in Aberdeenshire with a knife.

Police were called to Peterhead Academy at around 2.20pm on Tuesday, January 31.

All pupils were told to remain in their classrooms until officers arrived and arrested a 14-year-old in connection with the incident.

Police have confirmed that he has been charged and a report was sent to the relevant authorities.

On Tuesday, an Aberdeenshire Council spokesperson initially said there was an “intruder” in the building but later clarified that a teen had visited for a meeting before later allegedly being found in possession of a weapon.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of a teenager with a knife at a school in Peterhead around 2.20pm on Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

“Officers attended and a 14-year-old boy has been arrested and charged in connection and a report has been sent to the relevant authorities.”
