Tayside mountain rescuers issue warning to unprepared walkers over ‘easy’ Munros Tayside MRT

Mountain rescuers have issued a warning after two “totally unprepared” climbers had to be rescued from Ben Chonzie.

Tayside Mountain Rescue Team were called to the Munro on Friday after two people became disorientated during a walk social media had led them to believe was “easy”.

The pair were located and escorted back to safety by rescuers who have now urged people to be prepared for every eventuality.

The warning comes after videos of “easy” and “beginner” Munros began racking up thousands of views on social media.

The Tayside Mountain Rescue Team said: “Call out today to our social media friendly “easy” Munro Ben Chonzie. Two totally unprepared people became disorientated in deteriorating conditions. They were located, warmed and escorted back to the MR vehicles.

“Please remember when venturing out into our mountains, please be prepared for every eventuality. Despite us telling everyone numerous times that there are no easy Munro’s, yet again we find ourselves in the same position.

“If you require Mountain Rescue, phone 999, ask for the police, then mountain rescue.”
