The family of murdered oil worker Steven Donaldson say news of his killer’s early release is “a disaster”.

The 27-year-old from Arbroath was brutally murdered in 2018 by two men after his former girlfriend Tasmin Glass lured him to a playpark.

His loved ones were told on Friday that Glass has been granted parole with conditions, including a ban on her entering Angus and Dundee, as well as approaching the family.

Glass already had her case heard twice this year – with the panel deferring the decision both times due to a lack of information.

But on Friday, she was granted parole halfway through her ten-year sentence for culpable homicide.

Aged 20, she lured her former boyfriend Steven Donaldson to a playpark in Kirrimeuir in 2018, before two men Callum Davidson and Steven Dickie attacked him and then brutally killed him at a nearby nature reserve.

The trio were given a combined 57 year sentence.

One of the men convicted for murdering Mr Donaldson – Steven Dickie – took his own life in prison in 2019.

The Scottish Prison Service confirmed that Dickie had died at HMP Perth.

Steven Donaldson’s loved ones have described the news of Glass’ release as a “disaster”, saying it’s not the outcome they wanted.

But they did say they are pleased to see restrictions on her freedom put in place.

It is not known exactly when Glass will be released, however the Donaldson family have previously been told it could be within 24 hours.

The announcement of Glass’ parole comes a day before an annual memorial bike ride in memory of Steven – an avid biker himself – takes place.

His loved ones are now turning their attention to that – as the community prepares to come together to remember him.
