Thieves steal vodka and cigarettes after car ploughs into shop window

The owner of Premier Claypotts believes thousands of pounds worth of alcohol was destroyed as a result of the crash.

A stolen car has ploughed through a shop window near Dundee in an early morning raid.

Vodka and cigarettes were taken from Premier Claypotts in Broughty Ferry just before 5am on Wednesday.

No one was injured as a result of the crash, but the owner of the shop told STV News they believe alcohol worth thousands of pounds has been destroyed as a result of the incident.

Police confirmed no one has been arrested or charged in relation to the incident, however officers say they are following a positive line of enquiry.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Around 4.50am on Wednesday, January 18, we were called to a report of a car crashing into a premises on Claypotts Road, Broughty Ferry.

“Enquiries into thefts in connection with the crash are ongoing.”
