Scottish International Patrol Jamborette welcomes hundreds of Scouts from around the world

Hundreds of Scouts from around the world have descended on Perthshire for the 39th Scottish International Patrol Jamborette adventure.

Around 900 Scouts are taking part in an “unforgettable” two-week adventure in Blair Atholl, which kicked off on July 15.

The unique event pairs Scottish Scouts, aged 14 to 17, with international counterparts, to encourage cultural exchange and lifelong friendships.

During the adventure, Scouts have taken part in over 40 activities, which includes hillwalking, mountain biking, water sport adventures, arts, drama, and cooking challenges.

The Jamborette has taken place in the grounds of Blair Castle since 1946, and this year marks the 39th event.

Organisers said the event was founded with the aims of “furthering international friendships and understanding”.

The cultural exchange will continue after the event finishes on July 26, with overseas visitors being offered hospitality by local groups.

The opportunity gives youngsters the chance to find out more about Scottish life and for their hosts to find out more about their guests home country.

Dani, 15 from Clyde said, “I’m excited to get the chance to do canyoning and rock climbing. I’m also excited to get to meet some internationals and make new friends.

“I’m hoping to learn about different cultures and try new things.”

Andrew, 16 from Lanark, went to the event in 2022 and said it was the “adventure of a lifetime”.

He said: “I can’t wait for Blair Atholl 2024. The activities look amazing and I’m really looking forward to living and working alongside an international patrol.”

However, Andrew said he wasn’t looking forward to cooking his own meals adding: “I hope that the rest of my patrol are better at cooking than I am!”

Ally, 16 from Inverness said: “I’m so excited to be going to the field of dreams.

“With so many opportunities on the horizon, I can’t wait to get stuck in with new international friends and show them what Scotland is all about!”

Colin Peters, Blair Atholl camp chief said: “The 2024 Blair Atholl Jamborette is about more than just adventure. It’s about fostering global connections, cultural understanding, and empowering young people to become responsible citizens.”
