Scottish airport capacity 'severely restricted' during strike action

Workers plan to walk out at a range of Scottish airports this week in a dispute over pay.

Dundee Airport has been closed to some flights for the second time in three days amid strike action over a pay dispute.

Workers at Highland and Island Airports (HIAL) are walking out across the week, severely restricting hours and operational capacity.

Barra, Benbecula, Stornoway, Sumburgh and Tiree staff will strike on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, while operations at Kirkwall will also be limited.

Campbeltown, Dundee, Inverness, Islay and Wick John O’Groats will open as normal on those days, HIAL said.

Unite members rejected a 5% pay uplift last year.

The union represents security staff, baggage handlers, ground crew along with those working in fire and rescue, security and administration.

Members voted in December 2022 to strike in a bid to improve pay for rural communities amid a cost of living crisis.
