Scots brothers set Guinness World Record sailing toy ships around globe

Young Scots have set the Guinness World Record for the “most travelled toy ship” after sailing two Playmobil vessels around the world.

Olly and Harry Ferguson, from Aberdeenshire, received their certificates for their second record title after four years of adventures.

The brothers collaborated with Jax, Kai and Fynn Lewis in Trinidad and Tobago to launch their first toy ship (Adventure 2) in September 2020 after it ran aground in the Carribean.

Adventure 2 was released off Guyana, sailed through the Caribbean Sea, into the Gulf of Mexico, up the east coast of the USA, then out into the Atlantic Ocean before its signal was lost.

The toy ship went on to cover 15,439 km (9,593.34 mi) up to November 19, 2021.

The boys, who are now 11 and 14, are working their way through a bucket list of 500 different adventures.

They have built replicas of the HMS Erebus and HMS Terror from scratch to set them on a journey collecting data as they sail around Antarctica.

Editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records, Craig Glenday presented the title aboard the Royal Research Ship Discovery on Friday docked at Discovery Quay in Dundee.

Local actor Gordon Morris – who played HMS Erebus’ carpenter in The Terror drama series – joined Mr Glenday to congratulate the brothers.

The duo will feature as official “young achievers” in the upcoming Guinness World Records 2025 book, recognising their incredible achievements to date.
