Scotland’s first female bishop has appealed against her suspension following bullying allegations.

The Scottish Episcopal Church announced on Wednesday that the Rt Rev Anne Dyer, Bishop of Aberdeen and Orkney, had been suspended after two formal complaints were lodged which alleged misconduct.

However, the suspension has been lifted after she gave notice to appeal against the decision.

A meeting of the Episcopal Synod is to be arranged “as soon as possible” to consider the appeal.

The complaints made are to be considered by the Preliminary Proceedings Committee.

An independent mediation process set up last year in response to difficulties in the Diocese of Aberdeen and Orkney is expected to be put on hold pending the outcome of the disciplinary process.
