Homes and a leisure centre in an Angus town have been evacuated due to a gas leak.
Links Parade in Carnoustie has been shut down by police between Station Road and Ferrier Street as a result of the leak on Wednesday evening.
Two residential properties nearby have also been evacuated along with staff and visitors to The Carnoustie Leisure Centre.
The source of the leak has not been confirmed but members of the public have been urged to avoid the area.
Railway lines have also been affected by the leak.
A Network Rail statement said: “Due to a gas leak near the railway at Carnoustie, all lines are closed. SGN Engineers are on site to resolve the issue and have confirmed a 50 metre exclusion zone is required at the escape site. The line will remain temporarily closed via Carnoustie until it’s safe to reopen.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Links Parade in Carnoustie is closed between Station Road and Ferrier Street due to a gas leak.
“Two residential properties and The Carnoustie Leisure Centre are being evacuated as a precaution. Members of the public are asked to avoid the area.”
An update from SGN said: “Our engineers are on site in Taymouth Street following third party damage to our gas main.
“To ensure everyone’s safety, Taymouth Street is currently closed in both directions, and a diversion route for motorists is in place.
“The nearby railway line has also been closed, and travellers will be required to use a replacement bus service.
“We understand the inconvenience this is causing and our team is working as hard as possible to complete repairs to our gas network.”
