Minor injury unit closes temporarily due to staff shortage

Crieff Minor Injury and Illness Unit (MIIU) will be shut on Friday and over the weekend after unplanned absence caused "difficulties".

A minor injury unit in a Perth and Kinross town has closed temporarily due to staff shortages.

Crieff Minor Injury and Illness Unit (MIIU) will be shut on Friday and over the weekend after unplanned absence caused “difficulties”.

The MIIU is usually open from 9am until 5pm, Monday to Friday, and between 9am and 9pm on Saturday and Sunday but that will not be the case from January 3 to January 5.

The unit will reopen and return to normal operating hours from 9am on Monday, January 6.

Gordon Paterson, chief officer of Perth and Kinross Health and Social Care Partnership, said: “We would like to apologise for any disruption this may cause.

“It is essential that we provide an MIIU service with appropriately skilled staff which is safe for patients and staff.

“Due to unplanned staff absence, we have had to make the decision to restrict the opening of the unit for a temporary period.”

Patients can contact their GP during opening hours or contact NHS 24 on 111 out-of-hours if they have a problem which cannot wait.

They will be redirected to the Perth emergency centre if appropriate or an alternative MIIU in Perth and Kinross.
