Hunt for man in hooded top after woman raped in 'distressing' attack

Locals who were celebrating Halloween over the weekend and may have seen something have been urged to come forward.

Police are hunting for a man in a hooded top after a woman was raped in Dundee.

The incident occurred at around 1am on Sunday, October 30 in the Brook Street area, near to Brook Gardens.

The 20-year-old victim was left “distressed” and is being provided with “necessary support”.

Police are now searching for a suspect who is described as a male aged around 20, with brown fringe-style hair and wearing a navy hooded top.

A police presence will remain in the area and officers have been carrying out door to door enquiries and reviewing CCTV footage.

Detective Inspector Marcus Lorente said: “This was a particularly distressing assault for the victim and we are providing her with all the necessary support that she needs.

“I would like to reassure the local community that we are doing everything we can to identify the man responsible. A police presence will continue in the area, with the enquiry team consisting of local officers and detectives from Police Scotland’s Specialist Crime Division.  

“Officers have been carrying out door to door enquiries and reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding areas for any information that could assist the investigation.

“The streets were busy with people and students following Halloween celebrations and parties and we would like to speak to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or saw a man matching this description to come forward.

“I would again appeal to local residents who may have private CCTV or camera doorbells to get in touch, you may have captured something that could assist our enquiries.  I would also appeal to taxi drivers and motorists to come forward if you have dash-cam footage.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 0647 of October 30. Alternatively, if you wish to remain anonymous, you can pass on information to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% confidential.”
