Man who died after being pulled from water 'was trying to rescue dog'

A man who died after being pulled from the water at Aberdeen beach was attempting to rescue his dog, it has emerged.

On Tuesday evening, police along with ambulance and lifeboat and coastguard crews were called to the Beach Esplanade shortly after 7pm to reports of a man in difficulty in the water.

He was recovered from the water at around 9pm and taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, but was pronounced dead a short time later.

A report will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal.

The condition of the dog is unknown.
