A man has been charged over a wildfire in Moray.

The blaze broke out in gorse within the coastal village of Kingston on the afternoon of Tuesday, March 30.

Emergency services attended the scene near the River Spey, however around a mile of gorse and woodland was reportedly destroyed.

On Sunday, Police Scotland said a 31-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

A spokesperson said: “We can confirm that a 31-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a gorse fire in the village of Kingston, Moray, and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

“Officers were called around 4.41pm on Tuesday, March 30, to a report of a large fire at Beach Road.

“It was put out by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service but around a mile of gorse and woodland was destroyed.

“We would like to thank the public for their patience and support while we carried out our enquiries.”
