A man has been arrested and charged after fire alarms were maliciously activated at high-rise residential buildings in Aberdeen.
Between September 29, 2022 and February 7, 2023, fire alarms were activated within blocks of flats in the city’s Northfield and Mastrick areas.
This occurred a total of 14 times, resulting in the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service being called out without reason every time.
The alarms were activated twice at Cairncry Court, three times at Rosehill Court, twice at Stockethill Court, once at Stewart Park Court and six times at Smithfield Court.
A 19-year-old has been arrested and charged in connection, and was due to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on March 10.
Sergeant Victoria Thomson said: “This kind of behaviour is totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated. It has a major impact on our communities.
“If officers and colleagues from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service are deployed at a false alarm they are tied up from attending real emergency calls.
“We do not take these false calls lightly and will always work towards tracing those responsible.”
