Officers in the northeast of Scotland say they dealt with 55 speeding offences over the past weekend.

A 25-year-old man was reportedly detected driving 127mph in a 60mph limit on Sunday night.

The man has been reported for dangerous driving after he was stopped on the B9089 between Kinloss and Burghead in Moray.

In total, road policing officers say they dealt with 55 speeding offences across the north-east of the country between Friday, April 16 and Sunday, April 18.

Other notable speeding incidents that were reported reported include:

  • Friday 16 – a 57-year-old man detected driving 101mph in a 60pmh limit on the A96 between Colpy and Huntly
  • Saturday 17 – a 61-year-old man detected driving 94mph in a 60mph limit on the A920 between Colpy and Drum of Wartle
  • Saturday 17 – a 32-year-old man detected driving 107mph in a 70mph limit on the A96 between Blackburn and Inverurie
  • Saturday 17 – a 22-year-old man detected driving 91mph in a 60mph limit on the A952 between Toll O’Birness and Mintlaw
  • Sunday 18 – a 44-year-old man detected driving 93mph in a 60mph limit on the A98 between Banff and Fraserburgh
  • Sunday 18 – a 58-year-old man detected driving 92mph in a 60mph limit on the B9040 between Covesea and Lossiemouth

Road policing sergeant Pete Henderson said: “The dangers of speeding are well-known and is a major contributory factor to serious and fatal crashes.

“The speeds at which these motorists were detected shows a clear disregard for the possible consequences. Their actions jeopardise the safety of other road users as well as themselves and any passengers. 

“Officers will continue to patrol the road network to deter and detect illegal driving behaviour to keep the public safe.”
