Lasers shone at four planes landing at Dundee Airport as police warn of potential ‘catastrophe’ STV News

Laser lights have been shone into the cockpits of four planes landing at Dundee Airport.

Police warned that the consequences of the incidents over the past three months could have been “catastrophic”.

They said the lasers could cause a pilot to become disorientated or even suffer from temporary blindness.

Sergeant Jill Dolan, of Lochee Police Station, said: “Directing a laser beam towards an aircraft is extremely dangerous.

“This could have catastrophic impacts on the pilots, passengers or the wider public.”

Police also warned that anyone convicted of shining lasers at planes could be jailed.

Sgt Dolan said: “Due to what could potentially happen as a result of these acts, a custodial sentence could be imposed on persons found guilty.”

Anyone who witnessed the offences or has information is being asked to contact Police Scotland immediately.
