Probe into major blaze at laundrette which sent fireball into sky

Nine fire engines were dispatched to the scene of the blaze in Blairgowrie on Friday evening.

An investigation has been launched into a massive fire and explosion at a laundrette in Perthshire.

Nine fire engines were dispatched to tackle the blaze on Emma Street in Blairgowrie after a number of calls from concerned onlookers shortly after 7pm on Friday evening.

Videos from the scene show a fireball bursting into the sky as flames emanate from the roof of the building.

Crews remained on the scene over the weekend in an effort to make the area safe, while traffic was diverted away from the scene.

Police Scotland has since confirmed a probe into the cause of the fire is under way in conjunction with colleagues from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of the fire,” a spokesperson for the force told STV News.
