A major road in Aberdeen has been closed over fears the gable end of a building could collapse. 

On Friday, Aberdeen City Council announced Great Western Road would be shut from Anderston Drive to Springfield Road. 

The building at risk of the gable end collapsing is near to Oor Wullies Braw Fish N Chips and is three storeys high, the council added.

Motorists have been urged to avoid the area and take a different route while the building is made safe. 

In a statement, Aberdeen City Council said: “We are closing Great Western Road from Anderson Drive to Springfield Road as the building with the gable end which could potentially collapse is three storeys high. 

“The building is near Oor Wullies Braw Fish N Chips. 

“Please use an alternative route.”
