Emergency services battle grass fire at beauty spot

Acres of land at an Aberdeenshire beauty spot have been damaged following a grass fire.

Emergency services were called to Rattray Beach around 1.55pm on Saturday, June 22 following reports of the fire.

Six fire engines and a number of specialist appliances were sent to the scene with crews working for over four hours to bring the blaze under control.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 1.55pm on Saturday, June 22 to reports of a grass fire at Rattray Beach, Peterhead.

“Operations Control mobilised six fire appliances and a number of specialist appliances to the scene where crews extinguished the fire.

“Firefighters left around 6.17pm after ensuring the area was made safe.”
