Former Perth leisure centre Rodney Pavilion caught in community and council dispute up for sale

A former leisure centre caught in a dispute between the local community and council has been put up for sale.

Perth’s Rodney Pavilion has been listed by property consultants Graham and Sibbald as a “leisure or development opportunity”.

It has been advertised without a guide price but buyers are able to request more information by contacting the agents.

The listing states: “The subjects may suit a variety of uses, including redevelopment subject to obtaining the required consents.”

In June 2022, Perth and Kinross Council approved Live Active Leisure’s withdrawal of its gym and fitness service from the Dundee Road building.

In November, the council set a May 2023 deadline for Community Asset Transfer applications for the building.

Proposed options included converting it into a social enterprise cafe and training opportunity and to develop a site for water and other outdoor activities.

The council received two Expressions of Interest in the building formerly used by Live Active Leisure.

But no application met the council’s final deadline for a Community Asset Transfer.

Council officers were asked to bring forward options for the building’s future – including the potential for it to be used as an annex to nearby Kinnoull Primary School across the road.

But it was determined that the building wasn’t required for the school.

Another option was for the Health and Social Care Partnership to use the building but “this was discounted because of the size and extent/costs associated with the refurbishment required to bring this up to
clinical and care standards”.
