A man has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries following an incident on a residential street in Dundee.

Emergency personnel raced to the scene shortly after 4pm on Thursday amid reports of a man being “seriously assaulted”.

The 29-year-old’s condition is unknown but he has been transported to Ninewells Hospital for further treatment.

Police erected a cordon around Helmsdale Avenue in the Kirkton area of the city while initial investigations got underway.

Eyewitness accounts suggest uniformed and CID officers locked down the site for several hours.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said enquiries remained at an early stage.

They added: “Officers received report of a 29-year-old man having been seriously assaulted on Helmsdale Avenue in Dundee around 4.10pm on Thursday, May 26.

“The man has been taken to Ninewells Hospital for treatment for serious injuries.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
