A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a fire at a flat in Dundee.

The 49-year-old was rushed for treatment at Ninewells Hospital in the city after four fire crews were dispatched to the incident in the Provost Road area shortly after 7am on Saturday.

The street was closed for around two hours while firefighters battled back the flames before they were extinguished and the building deemed safe.

Two other men, aged 57 and 50, were taken to hospital as a precautionary measure but were later released.

An investigation has now been launched into the the blaze.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 7.15am on Saturday, we were called to a report of a fire within a block of flats on Provost Road, Dundee.

“Emergency services attended and a 49-year-old man has been taken to Ninewells Hospital with serious injuries.

“Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
