Canine Camelot: Scots town holds medieval fashion show for dogs

Ruffs at the Arbroath festival will combine historical pageantry with pooches.

A Scottish town will host a medieval fashion show just for dogs.

As part of Arbroath’s rescheduled 2020+1 festival, dog owners are crafting costumes for their pets for the event on July 4.

Ruffs will be a socially distanced medieval-themed fashion show inspired by historic pageantry.

From chainmail to corset themed coats, pooches will be dressed in their finest regalia for a photoshoot in the park.

Mandy McIntosh, the festival’s lead artist, said: “On the platform at Arbroath Station there is a fantastic big painting of the declaration of Arbroath and there are two dogs right at the front of that painting kind of sitting, looking very regal.

“I was really noticing, going around the town, how many dogs there were and how clearly people in the town really love dogs and I just thought it would be a great way to bring people into the project.

“To invite them to come in through their dogs and to kind of really, to get creative with dog coats and really think about dogs as fashion models.”

The fashion show is one of many events in the Arbroath 2020+1 Festival programme. You can find out more here.
