A body has been found near a river in the search for a missing pensioner who disappeared from his home wearing his pyjamas.

Harold Heeley, 96, was reported missing after leaving his home in Blairgowrie around 5.55am on Tuesday.

He was wearing his pyjamas and dressing gown and had left his hearing aids behind.

Police have now confirmed a body has been found in the search for Mr Heeley near to the River Ericht in the Parkhead Road area of Blairgowrie.

A missing person appeal had been launched after Mr Heeley was reported missing from the Bankhead area of the town.

Formal identification of the body is still to take place however Mr Heeley’s family have been informed by police.

Officers say there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.
