A woman is fighting for her life in hospital after a crash between a car and a van near a fruit farm in the Highlands.
Emergency services were called to the A96, at the junction with Wester Hardmuir Fruit Farm near Nairn, after a crash between a white Dacia Sandero and a green Renault Master van at around 3pm on Tuesday.
An 80-year-old woman, the passenger in the Dacia, was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries.
Her condition is described as critical.
The driver, a 79-year-old man, was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness where his condition is described as stable.
A 57-year-old woman, the driver of the van, was not injured and was arrested in connection with a road traffic offence.
The road was closed and later re-opened around 7.45pm.
Sergeant Doug Scott of Highland and islands Road Policing said: “Our enquiries to establish what has happened are ongoing and we are appealing for information.
“If you can help then please get in touch. If you have dash-cam footage that could assist with our investigation then please also make contact with officers.”
