A woman has died in hospital following a crash between a car and a van near a fruit farm in the Highlands.
Emergency services were called to the A96, at the junction with Wester Hardmuir Fruit Farm near Nairn, after a crash between a white Dacia Sandero and a green Renault Master van at around 3pm on Tuesday.
An 80-year-old woman, the passenger in the Dacia, was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries and was described as being in a critical condition.
The woman was later pronounced dead. She has since been named as Elizabeth Diane Gray, known as Diane, from the Forres area.
The driver, a 79-year-old man, was taken to Raigmore Hospital where his condition is described as stable while a 57-year-old woman, the driver of the van, was not injured and was arrested in connection with a road traffic offence.
Police sergeant Doug Scott of the Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts are with Diane’s family and friends at this difficult time.
“We continue to appeal to anyone with any information on the crash to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2051 of Tuesday, May 28, 2024.”
