Two men have died following a crash in which a car careered off a road in the Highlands.

Officers were called to reports of a white Mazda RX8 found on the A836 at Torroble near Lairg, at around 3.20pm on Sunday.

Emergency services attended and two men, aged 25 and 24, were pronounced dead at the scene.

It is believed the car left the road some time before it was found and reported to police.

Police are appealing for anyone who was travelling on the road from the early hours of Sunday morning until the car was reported to police to come forward.

The road was closed for around ten hours to allow an investigation to take place.

Sergeant Calum MacAulay, of Dingwall Road Policing Unit, said: “Our enquiries into the circumstances of this crash are at an early stage and our thoughts remain with the families of these two young men.

“I would ask anyone who was travelling on the road from the early hours of Sunday morning until the car was reported to police to contact officers.

“If there are any motorists with dashcam footage that were in the area around the time of the incident, please get in touch with police.

“Anyone with information can contact police via 101, quoting incident number 2086 of October 16.”
