Two people have been charged after police seized heroin worth an estimated £37,000 at a ferry terminal in Shetland.

Officers recovered the drugs from a vehicle in Lerwick on Sunday.

A 42-year-old man and 41-year-old woman were arrested and charged in connection with the recovery.

Sean Penman and Gillian Hay appeared at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Monday.

Penman faced six charges; supplying and possessing illegal drugs, possessing an offensive weapon, attempting to pervert the course of justice, and driving without insurance or a valid licence.

Hay faced charges of being involved with the supply of drugs, possessing an offensive weapon and attempting to pervert the course of justice

Both entered no plea. They were committed for further examination and granted bail.

They are expected to appear in court again but no date has been set yet.
