Police find vehicle of missing hillwalker Derek Hepburn last seen in the Highlands on Sunday Police Scotland

Police in the Highlands have issued a re-appeal for information regarding a missing hillwalker who has not been seen in five days.

David Hepburn, from Nairn, has not been in contact with any known friends or family since Sunday.

His disappearance has been described as “completely out of character” and concern over his welfare is growing.

Officers leading the search have now found the 53-year-old’s vehicle which was located in the Loch Mullardoch car park in the Glen Cannich area.

His planned route is not currently known, although police say their enquiries so far suggest he may have intended to complete a walk on Sgurr Na Lapaich or in the surrounding area.

Anyone with any information on his whereabouts or route he planned to travel have been urged to come forward.

Chief Inspector Jenny Valentine said: “We are growing increasingly concerned for Derek as he has been out of contact with his family and friends since last weekend.

“I would urge anyone who believes they may have seen him on or after Sunday 24 April 2022 to get in touch urgently.

“Anyone who can help is asked to call 101.”

Derek is described as 6ft 1in, of slim build, with black hair which is balding.

He is normally clean shaven or with light stubble.
