Pensioner seriously injured in hospital after being struck by car

The woman was first taken to hospital in Lerwick and then in Glasgow for treatment to serious injuries.

A pensioner was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being involved in a collision with a car in Shetland on Friday afternoon.

Shortly after 1.10pm on March 17, a collision occurred which involved a 72-year-old woman, a black Citroen Berlingo and a parked orange Suzuki Swift at The Pier on Pier Road in Walls.

The woman was taken to the Gilbert Bain Hospital in Lerwick and subsequently to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment to serious injuries.

No one else was injured as a result of the incident.

Sergeant Calum MacAulay said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this collision.

“Officers from Highland and Islands Road Policing Unit will attend the scene in Walls on Saturday, March 18 to carry out an investigation.

“We would urge anyone who may have information about the incident to contact 101, quoting reference 1585 of March 17, 2023.”
