An overdue hillwalker was found by rescue teams after being out on a mountain range for 26 hours in the Highlands.

Dundonnell Mountain Rescue team were called out in the early morning of Wednesday last week to reports of a man having failed to return from his journey.

A team was sent out to An Teallach in Wester Ross at around 1am and searched through the night without success.

The team were later joined by Police Scotland and several search dogs before finding the walker at around 1pm.

Rescuers said the person was found “safe if a little tired”.

“Thanks to all agencies and team members who put in a big shift resulting in a good outcome,” Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team said.

“If heading out onto the hills at this time of year please make sure that you have the appropriate equipment and that it all works correctly.”
