A 65-year-old man has died following a crash on a Highlands road.

Police were called to the scene of the collision, which involved a car and a motorcycle, on the A835 near Garve at around 11.10am on Saturday.

The motorcyclist, a 65-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

The road was closed for around eight hours to allow crash investigation work, before reopening at 7pm.

Drivers were asked to avoid the area while the road was closed, with those travelling to Ullapool facing a 86 mile diversion.

Ferry operator CalMac advised passengers who are travelling to catch the Ullapool to Stornoway crossing at 7pm to travel via Bonar Bridge and Lairg instead.

A spokesperson said: “Due to a RTA south of Garve, the A385 is likely to remain closed in both directions for several hours.

“Please be prepared to take an alternative route via Bonar bridge and Lairg or check Traffic Scotland updates before travelling.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 11.10am on Saturday, April 15, to a report of a crash involving a car and a motorbike on the A835 near Garve.

“Emergency services attended and a 65-year-old man, the motorcyclist, was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured.

“The road is currently closed for crash investigation work to take place and drivers are asked to avoid the area.”
