A weather warning for snow has been issued for parts of Scotland next week.

The yellow alert issued by the Met Office said parts of the north east, Highlands and Shetland and Orkney will be affected by snow showers from midnight on Wednesday until 11.59pm the same day.

Snow up to 5cm could fall in lower level areas, with up to 10cm expected at levels above 200m, the weather service said.

Some drifting and blizzard conditions in the strong northerly winds are also to be expected, the Met Office said.

Public transport is likely to be affected by the wintry weather, with longer journey times expected on trains, buses and on roads.
