Man assaulted during attempted dognapping

Police described the incident, which took place in Avoch, as 'highly unusual'.

A man was assaulted during an attempted abduction of his dog in the Highlands.

Police were called to the Rosehaugh Estate, Avoch, after a man was attacked while walking his dogs at around 12.30pm on Saturday, November 25.

The suspect, a man, then attempted to steal one of the dogs before leaving the scene in an old red Ford Transit-style van.

Detective constable Shaun Cowan described it as an “unusual incident” and urged anyone with any information to come forward.

He said: “This type of incident is concerning and highly unusual in the Highlands and islands.

“Our inquiries are ongoing, and I would urge anyone who may be able to help to come forward.

“Anyone who was in the area of Rosehaugh Estate, Avoch or who may have seen the described van or anything suspicious is encouraged to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 1531 of November 25, 2023, or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
