Football club's multimillion-pound battery farm plan rejected by council

Inverness Caledonian Thistle have had plans for a lucrative green energy project rejected by Highland Council.

A multimillion-pound battery storage facility the club applied to create on the west side of the city was knocked back on Thursday by 30 to 23 at a sitting of the full council.

The site would store excess energy generated by wind farms and release it back to the Grid, during periods of high demand.

Councillors backed guidance from council officers, who concluded the proposed battery farm was too intrusive on open space.

Caley Thistle officials said they will appeal to the Scottish Government.

The club was granted planning permission for a battery farm near Inverness’ Fairways Business Park last month.

But Highland Council decided to review it before the a meeting of all members on March 14.
