Hunt for missing man who ‘intended to walk from Borders to Highlands’ Police Scotland

Police are searching for a missing man from the Borders who intended to walk to the Highlands.

Lee Hawley, 42, was reported missing from the Melrose area on Sunday, December 19 and was last seen on Monday at around 7.55pm in woodland near Hawkslee Farm close to Newton St Boswells.

Officers believe Lee intended to travel to the Highlands but could have gone elsewhere in Scotland. They also think he was travelling on foot.

He is described as around 5ft11, of slim build with short dark hair and goatee beard. When last seen he was wearing green waterproof hooded jacket, khaki green trousers and black boots.

Sergeant Gavin Liddle of Galashiels Police Station said: “We are concerned for Lee’s welfare and would urge anyone who may have seen him or heard from him at any time since Monday, 20 December to get in touch.“
