Families have been left “distressed” after multiple gravestones were spray painted in a cemetery in Invergordon.
Officers received multiple reports of grave headstones in Rosskeen Cemetery being vandalised between Thursday and Friday.
Police said the “mindless acts” have caused considerable distress to families who have graves in the cemetery.
The force said enquiries are “ongoing” to establish the full circumstances of the vandalism.
Police sergeant Matthew Powell said: “These are mindless acts of vandalism which cause considerable distress to families who have graves within the cemetery.
“We are doing all we can to trace those responsible.
“I’m appealing to anyone who saw this happen or has any information to contact us.
“We will have additional officers in the area and if you have any information then please approach them.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 1741 of July 12.
“Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
