An elderly man has died after a fire at a block of flats in Dingwall.

Emergency services were called to St Andrews Road around 8am on Thursday after a fire took hold in the kitchen area of a ground floor flat.

Three fire engines were sent to the scene by Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) and crews were able to extinguish the blaze.

Police confirmed that a 65-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A joint investigation between Police and SFRS is ongoing to establish the circumstances around the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8am on Thursday, February 8, 2024, officers received a report of a fire on St Andrews Road, Dingwall.

“Emergency services attended and a 65-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Enquiries into the cause of the fire are ongoing.”

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Area Commander Michael Humphrey, said: “We were alerted at 7.49am on Thursday, February 8, to reports of a dwelling fire on St Andrews Road, Dingwall.

“Operations Control mobilised three fire appliances to the scene, where firefighters extinguished a fire within the kitchen of a ground floor flat.

“Sadly, one person passed away at the scene. Our thoughts are with all of those affected by this incident at this time.

“A joint investigation with Police Scotland is underway.”
