The body of a man has been found on a beach amid the search for a missing Russian sailor in the Highlands.

Officers confirmed they recovered the body on Tuesday afternoon at a beach at Achmelvich near Lochinver.

Formal identification has not yet taken place however, police have contacted the family of Roman Titov who has been missing since December.

Police said there are no “suspicious” circumstances surrounding the death.

Police and Coastguard held an extensive search for the 58-year-old, after the wreckage of his vessel was recovered near Lochinver, near Highlands.

Officers previously confirmed they believed the yacht left Ullapool harbour on Wednesday, December 13, with one man on board – Mr Titov.

His boat started off from Ullapool on December 14, 2023, in the direction of Turkey heading for Sevastopol, Crimea, where he planned to arrive by April 2024.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 3.30pm on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, the body of a man was discovered at a beach at Achmelvich near Lochinver.

“Formal identification has yet to take place, however the family of a man reported missing from a yacht that left Ullapool on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, have been informed.

“There are no apparent suspicious circumstances.”
