Freezing conditions probably brought down a microlight that plunged into the Cromarty Firth.

The aircraft flipped over as it ditched into the water near the shore in October 2015.

A 53-year-old pilot and his passenger were both able to escape the wreckage of the Quik GT450.

They were flying between Elgin and Invergordon when the microlight's engine became unresponsive. The pilot decided to ditch the aircraft in the Cromarty Firth as the shoreline was rocky.

An Air Accident Investigation Branch report concluded: "The pilot conjectured that the loss of power may have been caused by carburettor icing during two previous descents."
