A Maritime and Coastguard Agency-led search was launched when he failed to return to his car that evening but it called off its search for the 39-year-old Glasgow resident on Thursday night.
Police Scotland-led searches are expected to continue over the weekend between Mallaig and Gortenachullish with the help of the Coastguard and RNLI .
They will be joined by police search dogs and specially-trained search teams.
