New Girl star Zooey Deschanel has announced her engagement to Property Brother Jonathan Scott while on a trip to Scotland.
The longtime couple announced the news on Monday via a joint Instagram post captioned “forever starts now!!!”.
The image shows Deschanel, 43, flashing her engagement ring while standing alongside her new 45-year-old fiance.
Scott is believed to have popped the question at Edinburgh Castle, amid a family trip to Scotland during which they were also pictured at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
Sharing a picture of the couple to social media, the Tattoo wrote: “Delighted to welcome Zooey Deschanel and Jonathan Silver Scott at this evenings Stories Show. We hope you both enjoyed your Tattoo experience!”
According to People magazine, Deschanel’s children from her previous marriage to film producer Jacob Pechenik, Elsie, eight, and Charlie, six, played a special role in the proposal.
Proposing in Scotland holds a special significance for Scott, as his father emigrated from the country to Canada as a teenager.
He has often incorporated his Scottish ancestry into key moments in his life, with him and his twin brother, Drew, wearing kilts at the latter’s 2018 wedding ceremony.
The Scott brothers are best known for hosting US real estate TV show Property Brothers, wherein they use their computer and technical expertise to help potential home buyers renovate houses to their liking within a budget.
Deschanel and Scott have been together for four years, after meeting while filming an episode of Carpool Karaoke with James Corden in August 2019.
