Viral Glasgow Oompa Loompa Kirsty Paterson set to recreate role at Los Angeles 'Willy Wonka' event

An Oompa Loompa who was part of the ill-fated Willy Wonka event in Glasgow is set to reprise her role at an event in Los Angeles.

Kirsty Paterson became a viral sensation earlier this year after a photo of her performing as an Oompa Loompa at the event spread across the internet.

Police were called to the “immersive event” inspired by Willy Wonka in Glasgow after furious parents complained about the quality of the attraction in February.

After capturing the imaginations of people across the globe, “Willy’s Chocolate Experience LA” is to make its debut in the United States.

The plans for the event are said to involve The Hangover actor Zach Galifianakis and Canadian comedian Nathan Fielder as well as Kirsty.

The event is set to take place on April 28 and its location has not yet been revealed.

Announcing the event in a social media video, Kirsty said: “Yes, it was my ugly picture that went completely and utterly viral, I think I was actually the most viral person to have ever existed.

“So due to that overwhelming success of the Glasgow event I’m proud to announce that I’ll be coming to Los Angeles for the American alliteration of the Glasgow Willy Wonka experience.

“This is in fact a real event on April 28 in a nondescript warehouse, I mean, where else would I be? In downtown LA.”

On the event page, organisers, ‘House of Illuminati LA’, said: “Get ready to step into a realm of pure imagination as the highly acclaimed ‘Willy’s Chocolate Experience LA’ makes its debut in the United States, courtesy of House of Illuminati LA.

“Following its groundbreaking success in Glasgow, this fantastical event promises an immersive journey into the whimsical world of ‘Willy’ Wonka, featuring the notorious Scottish Oompa Loompa, Kirsty Paterson, in an exclusive absurdist Q&A with maybe Nathan Fielder and fan photo opportunity.”

The event is scheduled to take place in a “nondescript warehouse nestled in the heart of downtown Los Angeles”.

Admission is priced at $44 and is said to “grant access to a plethora of enchanting attractions”, including two complimentary jelly beans, live Q&A and photo session with the enigmatic Kirsty Paterson – described as “the ‘mother’ Oompa Loompa with a heart of gold”, music and comedy performances, and immersive Tiny Cinema installation screening silent films complemented by live musical accompaniment, local vendors, and “a whimsical photo area”.

Organisers claim that Wonka star Timothee Chalamet has “expressed interest in attending” the event.

Tickets are non-refundable because, the organiser said, “we’re actually going to deliver”.
